AVI on dvd?

Hi all!

Im slightly geting sick of this.. I have a .avi file, and i simply want to put it on a dvd and watch it on the telly.. Doesn't sound too hard? NO it really doesnt. But it is a real pain the butt!

Ok. I have been told to use mencoder. "No probmleb, works for me" is what i have been told. That makes me wonder, how the hell did those people manage to do that. I dont. mencoder seems to be black art. Heavy duty.

So, has anyone managed to do this and is willing to share his experiense with me (and all other users here) or can oint out a tutoira, HOWTO, guide for this? google certenly could not. .

Hey, I don't see anything in mencoder to let it encode to mpg2, avi no problem, but not what a dvd needs.
check out this:
http://tovid.sourceforge.net/

Also I recently bought a DVD player that plays DivX files (avi). It works great

That tovid thing seemed to work. Until it was finished. The output file (TopGearEncoded.mpg) was nowhere ot be found. Where do the output files go?

Also, there is a GUI mentioned on the website, i didnt see it. It was only command-line over here.
