auto mount multiple windows on boot-caused by K3B
 

Hi all. I searched yet I could not find anything on this subject. Every time I install K3B, afterwards, on boot, at least 3 windows pop up showing the contents of my CD drives. Here's my /etc/fstab. What am I missing here?

what are you actually trying to achieve???

I am trying to get rid of 3 blank windows popping up showing the content of my CD drives everytime I boot up and I am trying to get rid of the same thing happening everytime a CD or DVD is inserted.

This post has been viewed 26 times today. Looks like I found a good problem here.

Actually I tend to lean towards the title of the thread being somewhat.... curious.

Anyway, this depends on your window manager. Close the windows down, close down all apps you don't want to start up next boot, then when you logout of your window manager/desktop environment, click the box that says "save settings" or something similar. Now, next time you boot up, you shouldn't get those boxes.

If this doesn't solve your problem, could you address it more specifically. I am having a rough time understanding exactly what's going on. For example, "everytime I install k3b" I don't know about you, but once I install a program, I don't have to continually install it again and again...

Maybe you could suggest a better topic then? This has happened after installing K3B on two different boxes. I'm guessing it has something to do w/ auto mount since it happens AUTOmatically. By multiple windows I mean that multiple windows pop up whenever the box is booted w/ a cd in the drive or when a cd or dvd is inserted. I don't see what is so misleading about my topic but maybe I don't have your perspective.

Your just confusing a few basic Linux-terms :)

It's "linking a file-system into a directory tree", guess
she didn't think about nfs, samba or loop-back interfaces

However, one doesn't mount three windows...

A more specific (or precise) topic would have been
"After K3B installation 3 CD-ROM windows pop-up on KDE start" :)

Which wm are you using? Is this KDE, Gnome or does it happen regardless? Bring up your Control Center if this is KDE. Find the section on CDROMS (I'm doing this from Memory, so please, try to see through my words to my meaning ;) ) and see if you can find a box for "auto start" or "insert notification" or anything referring to opening a window upon cd mount. I am on w2k right now at work, so I unfortunately cannot find the exact location of this. However, poke around the Control Center, a button like that does exist.

I'm using KDE 3.1 and I should have mentioned it earlier. I couldn't find anything related opening a windows upon cd mount. I went through every bit of that Control Center and I am looking forward to editing my start menu using KMenu but no dice otherwise.

Well now don't I feel like an ass... It's in Gnome where that option exists. :) I recently have been taking some online courses for linux and one of them was turning this function off, the coarse is always centered on KDE so I assumed (where the mistake was) that this was where this function was. I went back through my course just now, and this tiny section was on GNOME. Sorry dude :)

However... I do think we can still get this fixed. First thing I'd give a shot at is removing kudzu from my entries in /etc/fstab up there. I don't have a huge grasp on what kudzu does, however, removing it is more than likely not going to cause a melt down (there wasn't even any nuclear material in there - Simpsons ;) ). You don't have auto enabled in your options section, that's good, but I think maybe kudzu is working it's magic on it and causing it to be mounted anyway. Give that a shot, and let us know how things turn out.

Just jumping to conclusions without knowing K3B
(or the way it works) ... maybe it has a setting that
tells it to only monitor ONE cdrom device, and by
default it checks your fstab for cdroms and pops
up a window for each of them?

Or, if you have heaps of symlinks in /dev that point
to the same physical device? I assume you don't really
have 4 cdrom devices in your box?
