Is it possible to have a useraccount auto-login if I turn on the computer at a specific time? For instance, I'd like to have user Vorik auto-logon when the pc boots between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., and show the loginscreen at all other times.
I'm using ubuntu 5.10 with GDM.
As I'm the only one awake at that time it would be convenient if I didnt have to give my credentials and wait untile GNOME starts. I could just turn the PC on, go to the kitchen to make breakfast and browse the news-sites while eating..
Your question is not that strange, I think. Have you tried writing a cron perl script to pick up the output of the date command and filter the time window that you like for auto login ?
Honestly speaking, this is exactly what I would do if I have to restrict logins in a certain time limits. The perl filter can then run xsession for the specific user you wish (You) between 6:00am and 7:00 am. For the automatic login process itself, I still need to think of how to do it. I hope this may sound making sense ..
Have a good day,
