Audio Routing?

So I have my Linux system set up to be controlled via Synergy and I love it. The one problem that I have is that I have absolutely no audio coming from the computer. I have one Keyboard and Mouse, and one set of speakers. I'd rather not get a mixer, or a second set of speakers, so I'd like a way to send the audio output over the network so that it can be output from my Vista machine. Is there any way to do this?

You can use VLC (Videolan Client) to stream audio, and to recieve these streams.

to Stream audio across network

1. Install VLC.
2. click File -> Wizard
3. Make sure 'Stream to Network' is selected.
4. Choose sound source (if you want to stream all your audio, then your source will probably be /dev/dsp
5. choose how you want to stream the music. (RTP Unicast to one PC, RTP Multicast to may PCs) and choose what IPs to stream to.
6. Choose what format you want the stream to be. (MPEG, OGG, RAW, ASF, WAV for audio. MP4, MOV for video.)
7. choose the Time To Live. (This decides how many PCs can listen to the stream. A TTL of 1 means only PCs on the LAN can listen to the stream, a greater TTL means PC more steps away can listen to the stream.)
8. Click 'Finish' to output the stream.

To Recieve the stream using VLC.
1. Install VLC
2. Click File -> 'Open Network Stream'
3. Fill in this section with the data needed to open the steam (protocol, port, etc.)
4. Click 'OK'

(This may take a little tweaking to get right. But it works. And VLC is available on *nix and Win platforms.)

/dev/dsp does not work for capturing the sound card output.

How can I simply capture the Line-In on either Linux or Windows?

Certainly, that's a cpature device!

Thanks. :-)
