I just installed Slackware 10, upgrading from Slackware 9.1. My kernel is version 2.4.26. Everything works fine, except for my sound. I have an Audigy 2 ZS, which uses the emu10k1 driver. I have the "emu10k1" modprobe line un-commented in my rc.modules script, and alsaconfig detected my card and configured it fine. I hear the "popping" sound when I turn my speakers up during startup (the sound of the faint static noise that let's you know the sound is working), and "dmesg" shows the "emu10k1" driver loading perfectly. When I play sound files, no matter what forma they are, the program shows the sound being played (XMMS even shows the sound bar going up and down), and my sound worked fine under Slackware 9.1 with this setup:
And yet I still can't hear any sound coming from my speakers. I'm completely stumped and I have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me?
I have the same sound device as you...
I have the same problem, though I hear the sound in my headphones only, but no sound at all at line out to my speakers. Maybe you can hear the sound too in your headphones??
I have just post a question about how to get the sound to line out.
Well, thanks everyone, but I fixed the problem. Some really obscure setting in the WAAAY back of "alsamixer" was off. It came packaged as off, which is stupid, but it was called like "Audigy A" or something. I knew I had done everything right! So proud of my configuration skills... yet feel so stupid... :-).
Nihongoga, I suggest playing a sound file while you tinker with various "alsamixer" settings. With things that can be turned on or off (there will be a MM above the meter), use the "m" key to toggle this. Especially look near the end for weird sound settings that may be affecting it. If you fix your problem with alsamixer then, (as root) enter "alsactl store". This indefinately saves your audio configuration. Good luck!
