Attn VB lovers:Phoenix Object Basic

Hello there,

This is not actually a problem but to share a valuable software to the Open Source Community.

This is a serious contender of VB, IMO. The IDE environment may take some time to get used to but there is nothing that says you cannot improve the way the IDE works. From the IDE down to the built-in controls are applications that run under Phoenix. Meaning you can edit/debug almost anything in Phoenix.

It's Free!!!

Has a Linux and Windows version. The Syntax are the same as in VB, very identical i would say. The Windows version can import ocx/activex.

I hope Open Source community would see the benefit of this Basic Programming Environment and start adding components in Linux and Windows that are portable.

You have to download and compile liblcms in Fedora Core1 to make it to work:

Things need to be done ( I suppose) :

(1) Improving IDE design
(2) Adding components
(3) Good report designer and writer components and module
(4) Java compiler and support for dotGNU and mono.
(5) Module for Apache to accept XML-RPC

I hope the authors would release their much awaited source code.

This is the sad fate of the Open source Community - lack of direction. The Softwares just come and go. We keep on building from the ground up.

I hope Phoenix Object Basic will resurrect if, in case, the project was indeed abandoned by the author.

Never the less, IMO, it is a platform that can be extended or customized. I believe one can totally change the whole IDE Design because it's an application instance (a radical Platform). (It would allow a programmer to choose Visual Basic Style IDE, Visual Foxpro Style IDE, or Delphi Style IDE if developers have pushed through with it).

We can add objects/components and allow bindings to Java Classes and or Kylix. From it's present design I don't see how it cannot be implemented. Unless, if it cannot bind to C/C++ modules.
