ATI Radeon 9800 on linux (3d hardware acceleration wont work)

Hello,

I'm a Redhat9 user, using kernel 2.4.20-8. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card that I'd like to use when running 3d applications. At the moment ALL OpenGL applications are so slow, like 1-2fps. I noticed that I don't have 3d hardware acceleration on. I've installed the correct drivers and stuff, how the hell do I enable the hardware acceleration?

Misc info if needed:

XFree86 version: 3.4.0

"diret rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
" - from when using 'glxinfo | grep direct'

"server glx version string: 1.2
client glx version string: 1.3
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 4.0.4
glu version: 1.3
" - from when using 'glxinfo | grep version'

"display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 4.0.4
" - from when using 'fglrxinfo'

It seems like the Ati drivers doesn't install the correct GL library, since I get the Mesa GLX Indirect renderer ..

Hardware:

AMD Athlon XP2500+ Barton 1.8ghz
nVidia NF7-S rev 2.0 (nForce2) motherboard
ATi Radeon 9800

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
try this one, it fixed all my problems on my ATI Radeon...
(from Mandrake expert)

The AGPGART driver will only run in try_unsupported mode on many of the
newer motherboard chipsets.

To activate this mode add this option to your "/etc/modules.conf" file:

options agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1

It sounds like you are a newbie.
First thing you needs to do was to download a driver from ati.com
then follow instruction in README file to install the driver to enable your 3D acceleration.
Most likely, i wouldn't work, because i been dealing with it for a longtime.
But i would refer to you download a driver at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=84566
with an *.zip extention to enable your 3d acceleration
