ATI Driver installation for SuSE 9.1 Pro

So I'm having trouble installing the latest ATi driver for my Radeon 9000 in SuSE 9.1 Professional. When I do get it installed, I think I am messing up something in the configuration because when I restart, I get stuck in console mode and I get errors when trying to startx. So I have to uninstall... all I want to do is get off this god awful 800x600 resolution and get to 1280x1024@60Hz.

I think you allready downloaded the ATI driver for your Raedon at
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
For SuSE 9.1 select the XFree 4.3.0 driver.

After installing the ATI driver run SaX2 again, but you have to refresh the detection database. After installing the ATI driver do the following:

As root open a shell

Change to system level 3

# init 3

Start SaX2 with option Refresh, because your configuration might be corrupted

# SaX2 -r

Now change to the Display section. Make shure you selected the correct Monitor and Graphic adaptor
