ATI Driver for RAGE Pro

Hi everybody.

I'm having an old video card, ATI Rage Pro, and I would like to install the drivers for it. The problem is I don't know which one to take. On the ATI site, you can choose between
FireGL1, FireGL2, FireGL3, ... and a few others. There is no explanation about which driver you should take for which card.

So I guess my question is clear, which driver should I take?

Thanks in advance.

ATI's drivers are for it's newer Radeon cards, and if I remember correctly it means 9-series (9000 etc.) and possibly some 8500 card...I'm not sure about that, though. for older cards like my Radeon 7000, or rages etc. you'll have to use a different driver that's not ATI's official one - go and take a look at DRI's site at dri.sourceforge.net at least it provided me with drives :)

Thanks. I'll check it out as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help, but I've bought a cheap Radeon 7000, so I simply could use the Radeon drivers from ATI. It's running smooth as hell now.

huh? ATI's own drivers for Radeon 7000? I thought there are no such things..gotta check out, altough I could swear I saw a text at ATI's site that there are no drivers for that card..

Error 1312, where on ATI's site did you find the drivers? I have a radeon 7000 and I couldn't find them.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't checked this post anymore since I bought the card.
You guys are right, I thought the Linux drivers on ATI's site were also for the Radeon 7000, which is not true.:(

I'll download the DRI drivers and hope it's gonna work fine.

I got the X drivers working, but I still can't get the framebuffer to work properly, I've followed the instructions in framebuffer-HOWTO in /usr/doc but It's stuck in 640x480. Has anyone else had success with this?

Error1312 07-23-2004 12:08 PM

I installed the drivers also successfully, but I don't have troubles with the framebuffer. However, the drivers are installed, but Fedora doesn't seem to recognise them in the configuration screen. I'm sure they are installed, cause tux racer works smooth now, while it didn't even wanted to start before. The OpenGL screensavers, however, are still 'flashing' when I run them.

I checked the Xorg.conf file (I don't find an xf86config file), and everything seems to be OK, but the configuration panel and the screen properties window keeps on saying that my videocard is a ATI Mach64.

Any ideas?

You were using the default kernel drivers? or ATI drivers you found somewhere else?

Error1312 07-24-2004 10:56 AM

I used the Radeon drivers from dri.sourceforge.net and installed Linux (Fedora Core 2 in this case) with the default kernel.
