ATA 100 Question

I am about to build a PC to be used as a file server and we need to use an ATA Card. Is there an ATA Card that we know will work with RedHat Linux 7.1? This server has to be extremely reliable and I would rather not have to rig it. Thanks for any help.

I know nothing about servers, but here goes

I have just installed my ATA HD's successfully.
Things that might help

Go to Google.com and search on ATA 100 and also UDMA
Go to http://www.via-tech.de/ and read up on the via chipset.
Go to RedHat.com and look up the compatability list.
Question: I assume a server is just a high-powered computer. Thus it has a motherboard not unlike most motherboards. If this is true, why not put in a motherboard that has the ATA 100 chip on-board? Probably, you already have a motherboard without a resident ATA 100 chipset.

hmmm.. you can call all kinds of pc's a server. As long as it servers client(s)
But there are differences between mobo's made for server use and mobo's made for home pc's..
Just look at the price
The focus of the freatures onboard are different..

ATA 100 card

The Promise Ultra 100 card does work with RedHat 7.1 but it is no longer sold. As of now (10-4-01), I don't think the Promise Ultra 100 TX2 card works with RedHat 7.1. If anybody knows how to make the Promise Ultra 100 TX2 card work with RedHat 7.1, Please let me know!!!

Addtional info on compatiblity with RedHat 7.1:

The IOMAGIC Ultra 100 is a Promise Ultra 100 and will work, but this card might be hard to get. The Maxtor Ultra 100 may be the same as the Promise Ultra 100, but I'm not sure. The older Promise Ultra 66 card is still sold and should work. Of course, Ultra 66 is slower than Ultra 100. Also, older 66Mhz memory bus computers may have a hard time with the Ultra 100 card.

Good Luck!
