Asterisk troubleshooting

HI

I have installed asterisk 1.2.3 on redhat es 3 and and no additional hardware and JSphone as a softphone

used the steps as discribed in this URL http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/. and I have edited sip.conf and extensions.conf. I am using this in the local lan.

now I can dial and recive calls through asterisk but there is no sounds

why is this happening

Asterisk needs hardware or atleast enable dummy drivers for timing, thats why my server was doing craz thing
