Asociations not saving

I had this working last night, but I don't know what happened. I seem to be having this problem with three files types

I'm using .smc .sfc .swc files (snes roms) with snes9x. I had it setup so that when I double clicked on any rom it would open snes9x and play the rom. Now when I do it it says there's no application associated. I tried reassociating the file and the same thing happens. I went into configure file types and erased everything that said snes and tried again but that didn't work. I also erased everything in there that was associated with smc sfc swc

I can change the association on any other file fine. And not only that, but I tried renaming one of my games (Chrono.smc) to Chromo.sma just for kicks and tried associating it with snes9x, and that worked.

My OS seems to be remembering something that I don't want it to. Can someone help me fix this?
