Are ATI drivers compatible with X windows version 7?

The ATI website says that its drivers are compatible with X windows version 6.7 and 6.8. It does not say whether or not it's compatible with later versions of X windows server. Should I take this to mean that its ONLY compatible with 6.7 and 6.8?

If I'm running X windows version 7, would that mean I would have to "downgrade" to 6.7 and 6.8 to get the drivers to work?

I'm running Ubuntu 6.06, the latest version, and I don't know if downgrading X windows server would be a wise thing. :/

Anyone had this problem and work around it? Any suggestions?
