Applications

Hey.

Okay, I'm a serious n00b when it comes to Linux. I've fired up Red Hat 8 (Psyche) on my machine, and have just downloaded VMware (from their site). I executed the RPM in Linux, and clicked next, etc. I thought that (coming from a Windows background) the application would have been placed in the Linux equivalent to the Windows taskbar. I tried executing the RPM again, and it said that the RPM package was already installed (obviously).

So, my question is; where do I find my applications once they're installed? Or, am I missing a part of the installation process that needs to be done in order for it to become complete?

Thanks.

redhat 8 is way way old, you're not going to learn how nice Linux is today by using a distro from 4 years ago...

that said... you can't download "vmware" that's a company, not a program... do you mean VMware player? VMware Workstaton? VMware ESX? VMware Virtualcenter? VMware GSX?

easiest way for you would probably be to just open a terminal, typ "vm" and then press tab a few times to see what commands exist that start with vm. then fill in the rest. also try "rpm -ql vmware" where "vmware" is the name of the package you installed - note that's the package, NOT the file name, e.g. vmware not vmware-1.2.3.rpm
