App to stream music?

This may be a stupid question, but I'm asking anyway :p

I want to stream music from a linuxbox to a PC on a different network, on a Windows or Linux based machine. I don't know if I cn do it in Windows via SSH and Putty, I have not tried yet. If so, do let me know how. Otherwise an app may be more appropriate. And not shoutcast, tried it and hated it.

Info GNUMP3d (freshmeat.net):

GNUMP3d is a small, portable, and robust server for streaming MP3s, OGGs, and other audio files. It presents a simple and attractive interface to Web browsers, which allows you to navigate through your music collection. Individual files may be streamed, as can whole directory trees. Other features include the ability to see your most popular tracks, and to search your collection for songs.
