Post apache2 , php, squirrelmail config issues

I am trying to run squirrelmail using apache with php.
I found a FAQ that addresses my issues here...
php FAQ rerocessing
my problem is that I added these lines to my httpd.conf and still cannot load the index.php
page in squirrelmail (apache does not process it)
should I have added these somewhere else? ..or differently than stated?

your help is much appriciated!
