Apache startup failed


I just installed the apache server that came with the redhat 9 disks and when i go to services and click start it says failed, also when i type service httpd start in the term it fails also. is there something else that needs to be running for it to work?

Depends on how it's meant to be started.

First of all, did you check the log-files?
They should live in /var/log

From my memory of RH I'd suggest to have
a look in /etc/xinetd.d/
Is there an apache-file there?
If you edit it, does it say it should
be run?
Another thing to check is /etc/services -
is port 80 open?

But these are all wild guesses, the logs
would help ;)
