Apache --prefix=???

I'm trying to update my default installation of Apache, on a Fedora 2 server.

Most of it seems pretty straight forward, and even the installation seems easy enough. My only problem is I'm not sure what to use as the --prefix= option. I know I can basically install it where ever I want, but how do I handle the older installation. Do I need to overwrite the old installation?? Or just install in a new place? If I DON'T overwrite the old installation, do I need to do anything to uninstall the old version?

And while on that subject, where is the old version? I haven't been able to find the current installation of Apache in my file structure.

Any info you can offer would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Michael

Why not uninstall the old version first (it'll be called apache or httpd) and then compile the new version from source. I usually use /usr/local/apache or /usr/local/apache2 as the prefix.
