apache and MySQL

I need to set up a server (temporarily) to make my site with, it has to support MySQL because I'm using SMF (Free Machine Forum) to set up a forum.

How do I set everything up in the simplest manner to create my forum? (I plan to transfer the forum to a hosting service when done creating.)

Here is a guide on setting up a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) system. Just take the bits you need and disregard the rest.
