apache 2 directory listing

I have a specific folder on my webserver that i want to be displayed to the screen, is there some way to allow users to browse the contents of that directory? for some reason it is not turned on by default. I would like the be able to control this at the virtual host level.

I believe as long as there is no index.html or whatever file you specified to be the DirectoryIndex, the files will show up as a listing. I could be wrong though but I know when you go to my site and the /images directory it will give a listing of all the files in that directory.

I hope thats a good thing.

But what I am wondering is if there is some directive that allows or disallows directory listings. On subfolders it works fine, but i need to view the directory list directly off the DocumentRoot ie. www.domain.com shows it all.
