Anyway I can turn KDE a little smoother?

Greetings
Is there anything I can do to make KDE run a little "faster"?
Like, reducing graphical features or anything else?
And how do I do that?

yes

1) get a faster machine
2) get more memory

lol

3) go to the k menu. somewhere there is a the startup wizard thing that you get when you 1st run kde - you can adjust the amount of effects thre

4) if the graphics are slow intall the nvidia /ati drivers if you have that card. it really speeds up rendering

5) use hdparm to check for dma (hdparm -l /dev/hda1)

6) remove unused apps and software

If you dont have the wizard as a menu entry, you can always run it this way:
Press F2, type: kpersonalizer and hit enter. This should work on all distributions except SuSE, for some weird reason they don't package it with ther KDE.. /:

Anyways, all of the options the wizard sets are available all around the look and feel section of the control panel but the wizard realy is the fastest way.

people say KDE is so slow, but if you dont run loads of effects and have a reasonable well tuned machine you dont need great specs.

i had vector linux running on an 850mzh athalon with 384mb of ram and a GeForce 2. i was quite fast.

but that leads to an important point - some distros are 'faster' than others. the aformentioned vector being a good example.

suse being, arguably, slower.....
