Anyone Running Subversion 1.2.3? Install Headaches.

Hi,

I'm doing a software evaluation of subversion for my company (thinking of switching from cvs). Basically the problem I'm having is that I want to use an up to date copy of subversion, but can't find new binaries for Mandrake 10.1 and the older version wouldn't even install through drakeconf. I did get it installed using a redhat 9 binary, but I had to symlink a bunch of libraries to get that to work and I haven't been able to find a compatible berkeley data base library at all (v 4.0).

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone will be able to give me some advice on a no non-sense way of getting subversion 1.2.3 working (well enough for a production env).

Would it be better if I just built everything from source maybe? Or should I just settle for subversion 1.1.0 which seems to have binaries mdk 10.1?

Yes, build it from source. With the source, you don't need to have the berkeley db engine. If the configure script doesn't find berkeley db, it will default to using FSFS which is plenty fine. Almost everyone I know of using subversion is using FSFS; and if you have berekely db installed, i believe you still have the choice of using either or via some configure option.

I've had no problems compiling subversion 1.2.3 on my redhat 7.3 machine and getting it to play nicely with apache 2.2.0

You can always get help in the #svn group at irc.freenode.net.
