Anyone have any neat X11/WM tricks?
I'm looking for ways to do cool/unique things with X11 and/or my windowmanager. Its a bit of an art that I think has been forgotten since we've mostly moved from windowmanagers to KDE/gnome.
Examples of things I'm looking for: - running screensavers with the -root argument, effectively providing an animated wallpaper.
- "transparent" Xterm set to always-on-bottom and borderless... running something like top, or just there as a command line.
- I used to have a theme for enlightenment that allowed you to windowshade and window in any direction (by having a title bar on any side of the window). It was kind of cool to have an Xterm that slid sideways from the side of your screen.
- Using minimalistic windowmanagers like 'ratpoison' or 'evilwm' to provide a clean workspace
I'd be interested to see how you gurus out there have customized your desktops.
