anyone got gaim 0.62 installed in suse 8.2 pro
if so, how was it done?
EDIT - SEE UPDATED POST BY ME BELOW |
yast2>install/remove software>search for gaim, click box next to gaim, click install, put disks in when it asks.
|
I only have the first cd
so where can I get suse 8.1 rpm's? |
|
you may want to try this since you don't have all the disks, it will be much easier to install apps and have all the depends taken care of.
http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ . once installed you can do a apt-get install gaim and it will take care of everything. or get the synaptic package so you can point and click the software you want. i've been using it for a few months and it works so much better than yast online update. |
k, will check that out, i use it for red hat already so i am familiar with how to use it
thanks! |
ok, now I have suse 8.2 - it comes with gaim 0.59.8 - what I want to know is how to upgrade it to 0.62 - I have installed tons of software for different distros so I don't need a how to, but the problem with this example is that there are so many dependencies and they keep getting worse. I'll get one (gkspell) and then a whole bunch more will come up.
I might try apt-get to see what it can do, but it does't always work either. Tips appreciated. well. no go on the apt4rpm (although I really like the idea of it): Code:
# rpm -ivh apt4rpm-0.64.4-1.noarch.rpm |
You may try to install these package:
apt-0.5.4cnc9-1cl synaptic-0.26-rb1 apt-devel-0.5.4cnc9-1cl or the newer one for SuSE Search it here: www.rpmseek.com Have fun :-) |
I just switch over form mandrake to Suse 8.2 yesterday and I did find rpms that would work to upgrade to Gaim .64
you need gaim-0.64-SuSE.ulb.2.i586.rpm and gtkspell-2.0.4-SuSE.ulb.1.i586.rpm. I found them at http://www.usr-local-bin.org/gaim.php |
If you installed apt for SuSE do:
apt-get update apt-get install gaim I like Kopete more than Gaim. IMHO, Kopete is better and easier. |
