Anyone else have Firebird 0.7 running also?

If so I'm just wondering if I've got some glitched version........because no site has scrollbars and its just a bit strange. I'm wondering if its just me or and upgrade. Though I am liking the speed-scrolling.

i think it may be glitched. i was just over at mozilla.org and when trying to click the link to download firebird .7, i got a 404 error. basically the tarball didn't exist. i think they pulled it.

Trinity22 10-16-2003 02:34 AM

gah. well that bites. not sure if I want to give up speed scrolling for scrollbars. :/.

I'm using 0.7 FireBird browser. My version is working perfect.

Downloaded it today - no probs so far........

Trinity: do you have some firebird skin running? firebird admins are yet to clean up those skins and extensions. some of them don't work as they changed skin base from 0.61 to 0.70.

Where did you get .7? I just went to the page http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/ and all they list .6.1.

I put 0.7 in yesterday and I haven't had a problem at all. Now if only I could get the stupid links in thunderbird to work....

That link shows 0.7 for me. Maybe you're browsing the internet offline and it's in your cache.

Mine is good. the .7 download is linked to on the sidebar.

firebird works fine with me. Just try to download it again from the website and see what happens.

Lucky you! I downloaded it yesterday and it's far worse than 0.6.1 for me. For one thing, no more nice themes; can't install new themes; full-screen transition is awful (browser completely disappears and desktop jerks around a while then the full screen appears...), some features don't work.

If it doesn't get better I guess I'll have to look into abandoning Mozilla stuff altogether. I'm not expert enough to fix everything and I would like to have a browser that works.

I went to the forum on Mozillazine but the responses to other users' problems there were so outrageously rude that I'd never post a question of my own.

It's a poor way to gain user support.

Sorry you're having such a rotten experiance with it

I installed MozillaFirebird and it's working just fine for me.

It might be that the binary version doesn't match with your computer, you could try compiling your own and seeing if that works.

Otherwise, I've heard people like Opera ;)

jonr 10-28-2003 10:16 AM

I might go back to Opera if Firebird doesn't improve for me. I used to use it and liked it OK; I don't think the $39 price is unreasonable if one wants to support Opera (and get rid of the not-very-bothersome banner ad which disappears anyhow in full screen...).

I'd RATHER use a volunteer software like Firebird but not if I'm going to be swearing at it as it gets worse and worse instead of better and better. I'm not savvy enough to contribute any expertise myself--if I were forty years younger, I think I'd try to work on those programs myself because I do strongly believe in the volunteer, open-source effort.
