anybody knows a proxy switcher for linux?

i need a prog which act's like a localhost socks proxy and does the management for a proxy switching
this means i need a prog which can switch proxies on the fly depending on a proxy server list
(it depends on if the proxy is up or down)

Hi,

I am using squid for this; the local system always uses localhost as proxy. Feed squid the whole list of servers ("parents") and let it do the work...
