Any way to send & receive Hotmail in Evolution?

I installed the Evolution package for Debian Woody... I'm curious as to if there are any ways of sending and receiving Hotmail in it?? That would be beautiful...

Thanks!

Not sure about that one, but I agree that would be nice. I believe the web based e-mail is profitable to M$ only as long as they can present you with banner ads. Thus, they will prevent you from traditional smtp 25 or pop3 110 communications.

A company will only offer services if they make profit in another area or are directly profitable themselves.

My educated guess is you will never get this to work.

However, I do have to ask, have you made this work with a windows client?

Yes, but only Microsoft Clients... Outlook 2003 is beautiful when used with Hotmail. I have been using Hotmail with Outlook since Office XP (2002).. They also have a Connector for MSN which provides the new Calendar, Contacts, and such features of a Hotmail/MSN account with Outlook... I believe that just emulates an IMAP client.

Just checked it, evolution doesn't have an option to use an HTTP mail server (an oxymoron, I know), so it's a no go...but many other free mail providers allow you POP3 access, google around for those...I'd hate to support MS anyway, by using their service.

Use Hotwayd - search www.google.com/linux. It allows you to pull down hotmail accounts to clients other than Outlook and Outlook Express.

I knew that, but I have seen several ways of setting up services that convert Hotmail or other webmail services into POP3 access to READ mail.. but I was looking for info on sending and receiving...

Hotmail Popper
http://www.boolean.ca/hotpop/

It supports Thunderbird, which is what I use, but it may also work with Evolution, who knows.

Ok, cool, didn't know about that. If you can get around the receive (i.e. read) part then sending should be easy, you can send mail from any SMTP server doesn't have to be the same server as the incoming mail. I usually use the smtp server of my ISP, it is usually smtp.(ispname).(domain).

That's what I was confused about... hehe... and its not free!

Hehe. Well not many things for windows are!! I just started digging into this same problem myself. Currently waiting for mozilla thunderbird to finish compiling, already setup hotwayd. Then I'll be joining you in a search for sending hotmail from linux.
