While I don't believe there is, I think it would generally be much quicker to use the "Tab" key. Suppose you have this very long directory to go into:

/var/www/html/someridiculouslylongwebsitenamegoeshere/assets/images/jpegs/large/home/

It's really not that difficult to start typing the names of a path, and use Tab to complete them.

For more complicated file browsing, it'd obviously be easier to just use your favorite gui file manager (I use Nautilus in Gnome) to browse to the directory you want to work in, click 'file' and 'Open in Terminal.'

Hmm... I'm not sure directory paths are what you are talking about. If it is, you can use cd - to get to the previous directory. If you are talking about previously typed commands, you can use the shell's command history feature with the up and down arrow keys and search through the history with ctrl-i (I think?) in Bash's emacs editing mode or with /search term in its Vi editing mode. But, perhaps you are really talking about something altogether different?
