Any use for fragment shader HW under Linux?
Aside from games, that is. You see, I have a Celeron 433MHz with 192MB of SDRAM, and I want to put either a Gefroce 4 MX440 or a FX5200 in it, replacing my S3 Trio 3D/2X, which gets rather bad x11perf scores, unfortunately.
Problem is, I don't know which to choose, so I am wondering whether to get the FX5200, or te MX440. I'm basing this decision on pixel shaders - if I was running windows on this thing I would most definitely choose the FX, because Media Player Classic for Windows has shader capability, so you can make the video stream appear embossed, mapped onto a sphere or something. But when I searched for pixel shader linux on Google, it didn't give me any results. Are there any media playback apps that make use of fragment shaders in Linux? |
