Any alternative to Brasero ?
 

Hi I am having a tough time with Brasero and I have wasted 3 new Blank DVDs

The Burn process seems to start okay , but when I come and see the progress after some time , it gives the error "Unable to Eject Medium ..Please manually eject and reload for the operation to continue" ..After I eject and reload , it shows the message " Burn successfully completed"

But to my horror , the disk becomes useless.. It is not identified by either Linux or Windows ...In linux it doesnt even mount and not shown in fdisk either..In Windows , it seems to at least realize there is a CD/DVD loaded , when I click Properties it shows "0 out of 0 bytes free"
I have condemned 3 disks due to the same error

Any other safer alternative , some app which does it one shot and ejects the DVD safely ..My DVD ROM drive is functional , but its a bit old and the CD tray is sensitive ,there is some slight problem in the open / close button of the drive..Sometimes it closes on its own befre the CD is placd in the tray..A mere touch of the tray triggers it to close!...i usually drop the cd from above without touching any part of the tray and so far it has worked okay

I suggest you to go with K3B or Gnomebaker. I like K3B the best. It is one of the best burning program.

or you can emulate, through wine, InfraRecorder(it's really good, none of native linux burners can do what it can! And it's open source ;) ) although you might have to do some wine configuration(add CDROM disc device for InfraRecorder to see it, also you must be in DISK group[if you didn't add yourself there when installing Slack])

I will add my recommendation for xfburn.

While k3b is good, it will pull in a load of kde dependencies.

Xfburn is a simple light-weight burner.

I have had K3B work many times when Brasero failed.

I don't care about dependencies. I have lots of HDD space.

If your drive is that old, it could be a CD/DVD drive problem, not brasero.

Try buring at minimum speed.

OK, this sounds exactly like my problem. The manual ejection is ot the issue. It soulds like you're trying to burn files from a network drive to the CD. All proceeds exactly like it should, but nothing is actually written to the CD except the volume label. If I move the files to a local directory, it performs flawlessly.

K3b and xfburn won't see the network at all.

I have no solution, I'm looking for help.

I have been having great luck with an ncurses based program called CDWrite. Though I use it with cdrtools instead of cdrkit, the documentation states that it prefers cdrkit (wodim). I've never had good luck with wodim and imagine that might be part of your problem. CDWrite has one huge adavantage over many of the others in that it imports cddb data and writes (and allows you to edit) cd-text.
