antivirus for linux

1. is there any antivirus programs for linux...
(dont tell me that there is no virus for linux :-) )

2. does anyone knows any site where you can get good utils for
linux...( i use rh )

3. are all linux programs need to be under gnu gpl .
i hope not , then where can i find programs for linux
that are not under gnu gpl.....

4. is there any program like adobe photosop for linux...

OK, for starters there really aren't any viruses, the only reason for anyone on Linux to have a anti-virus scanner is to prevent the transfer of Windows viruses to other Windows machines. There are 40 viruses, only 4 of them are "in the wild" and they are very very rare and harmless as far as I know. Secondly, what do you mean by "good utils"?? and thirdly, what is wrong with the GNU GPL?? Don't even get me started on that one!!
As for program like Adobe photosop (im assuming thats photoshop) I don't know because I've never used it, but you can use Adobe Reader, Acrobat Exchange, GoLive, Illustrator and Streamline but not Photoshop through WINE (www.winehq.org) but there are probably better programs which are designed to run on Linux in the first place.

i was never able to run f-prot on my suse8.2 box. instead i use antivir (www.hbedv.com). but antivir has no GUI.

If you use linux as normal user (not root) it very hard for virus to affect on system - as far as you are non-root user, so everything you doing (and virus that you run anyway :)) ) is limited by your home directory and /var/tmp
Most harmfull code are network exploit, so best thing you could do is set up firewall for disabling incoming connections. Third kind of viruses is different kinds of harmfull javascript, html and other web-code - but if you run your browser as normal user, so you are protected aginst system data loss. And I sure, that you regullary will back up your data. The last kind of virus thag you could run, is Window$ viruses under some kind of wine (wine, wineX, Crossover Office). Only thing for what I used antivirus is filtering email for users of my server against windows viruses. I like dr. web antivirus for this. Kaspersy (also known as KAV) is not so good.

There are some commercial email antivirus packages that I know of. We use Interscan bt TrendMicro on our email server. However there are several other good packages out there, like Sophos, Amavis and Mcafee VirusScan.

There was an article I read somewhere about ELF binary viruses.

for antivirus I have Panda Antivirus.. but it has no GUI..... i've heard of Clam.. F-Prot...RAV...Vexira... and that's all i can think of...
about Adobe Photoshop: (i'm a newbie so pardon my stupidity) i think the gImp is sort of like it...

I used Dr. Web for Windows for a long time. It's sort of like Russian Norton Antivirus. Some time ago I saw a Linux version of it. It might be what you need.

It is in development for now and I can say that it is quality product. I'm using it as mail-filter. It has no GUI, but I don't need it.
