antivirus and firewall starting

Hello?

I want to start both antivirus and firewall
services upon system start in each of the
following distros:

1. Fedora Core 3
2. CentOS 4/4.1
3. SuSE 9.3 Professional
4. Mandrake PowerPack 10.1

I would appreciate if someone could inform
me how to.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'd personally recommend that you download Bastille. Bastille is an amazing all-in=one hardening program which will lock down your system pretty hard, and I definitely think you should give it a go! A good tut on downloading/installing/running/configuring Bastille can be found here: clicky. I use it, and it has never let me down! :D

SuSE firewall is enabled by default on install, you can get to the settings by opening Yast and going into security settings.

In theory, you don't need anti-virus software with any of them. The only one that I could find is ClamAV and this only really scans e-mails. Try and Google for it.

ClamAV does scan your hard drive - with a simple command: clamscan. :D

That is probably the best antivirus, although I have never needed it because I'm behind an SPI firewall and Bastille. That certainly helps. :D

Go for Bastille - give it a go, and see if you like it. It's simple, easy to configure, and will automatically set everything up for you. Perfect.

Hi J_K9 and InterestingDave,

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, SuSE has the built-in firewall that can be
en/disabled in the YaST control.

How about a built-in antivirus in SuSE, or for that
matter in any of the distros I mentioned in my
previous post?

I'd certainly look at ClamAV and Bastille :)
