Annotation Software for Linux

I am looking for an application that can draw lines and/or shapes over top of windows in KDE. I would like the ability to draw in real time (without taking screen shots).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

How do you do this with compiz? Do you have to run a drawing app. full screen with background transparency or is there some compiz plugin which works directly? I had a play with compiz (in fact the beryl variant) but didn't see anything like that.

Note KDE already has the compositing manager kompmgr, but again I don't know how you make use of it.

The plugin for compiz that allows you to annotate is called "annotate". It's supposed to come with the base installation but I noticed that the debian pre compiled version (from apt) doesnt come with annotate.

Compiz isn't what I'm looking for in annotation software as I'm (unfortunately) using legacy software (Red Hat 9).

Thanks, that might explain why I didn't see it in Beryl.

Here's a bit more information about KDE's answer to Compiz/Beryl:

If there is some clever hack that works with older software versions I certainly never saw any ref to it.
