Android

I am thinking about buying an unlocked international version or any kind of htc magic or hero because I am currently on at&t's iphone 3g US network. I want to know if I will receive the android firmware updates over the air on wifi or on the at&t network? Some people say that t-mobile pushes the updates to their customers G1'S and eventually the mytouch. This would be a deal breaker for me. Also I know this depends on the phones and the Operating system on the phone.

I would imagine that would be carrier specific. If you are on the ATT network I don't really see how T-Mobile would communicate with your phone.

You might want to consult Google's Android page for that... just remember- that T-Mobile or ATT is free to customize Android to their own open/closed standards.
