America's Amry [Linux] Installation help

Hey guys I was very excited to see that Americas Army was for linux. I bought a Linux Format with a dvd with it on it, I copied it from the dvd to a regular cd [didnt have dvd-rom in my computer]. So I took it home and tried to install it like it says in the magazine: sh armyops-lnx-170.sh.bin. I get an error in retun that is:
Verifying archive integrity...armyops-lnx-170.sh.bin: line 1: cksum: command not found
Error in checksums: is different from 812130174.

I tried to download an rpm of textutils, but it says it is already installed on my systen. I would appreciate any kind of help towards solving what is happening. Thanks.

Checksums -- I'm pretty sure that means the CD is not a bit for bit copy of the original. In other words it won't work properly from that CD. Try again by burning the material onto new media.

Don't bother with 1.7

Get 1.9

ftp://armyops:ftp@guinness.devrandom...s190-linux.bin
ftp://armyops:ftp@2dollar.unixwhore....s190-linux.bin
http://biot.com/misc/armyops190-linux.bin

And of course www.3dgamers.com

I got these files but I can't get them to run!

I was able to install it with the TMPDIR= option and when I run:
./armyops lan bridge -nohomedir -INI=server.ini
I get a pop-up or splash screen
then an error message saying "Cant find 'lan'..."
then "out of video memory.."

I am running it from a terminal on RH7.3 and 8mbVideo RAM, 128mb RAM, PIII 400Mhz.

Is this because I don't have the hardware needed?

Thanks

This is incorrect:
./armyops lan bridge -nohomedir -INI=server.ini

This is correct:
./server-bin lan bridge -nohomedir -INI=server.ini

Thumbs up

Sorry for being a troll!

Yep, I found that out last night. I was thinking that "./server-bin" is the same as "./<server-bin>" or the name of the executable file. I also found that it is located at .../amyops/System, at least in my installation of AA1.90 linux server.

I think maybe we should include the 'System' part to avoid confusing newbies like me?

Thank you for the quick reply, anyway! Appreciate it deeply.

And yes, it now works with barely noticeable lag, which in the first place, might be caused by clients running AMD 1.2Mhz, 128MB RAM, 64Mb video RAM, 7500rpm hdd running Win98/WinMe. I tried connecting 4 clients on a 100mbps LAN and the players had no complaints!

Hoorrayy!
