amarok - TagLib claims files are not writable

I'm looking for a good mp3 player with library and playlist support and have just installed amaroK. When I try to edit the meta information of a file on a fat32 partition it gives me the following error message:

"TagLib claims this file is not writable"

permissions for this partition are set in fstab as umask=000 and 'ls -l' tells me all permissions are set. What's the problem?

I'm having the exact same problem, only I seriously doubt it has anything to do with permissions. What is the name of the file you tried to edit? See this KDE bug for more info: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93293

Post back if you figure this out,

Will

Can you create a file on this partition. For example touch <path to partition>/test.

Look at one of the files in the directory ( using the -l option ).
Also look at the long listing of the directory itself
ls <path to parttition>/ -dl

ls -l <path to partition>/song.mp3

Also, consider using the fmask and dmask options instead of umask. This allows you to have seperate permissions for files and directories. For example, the 'x' bit has a different purpose for files and directories. You probably don't want files execcuted on this drive, but the 'x' bit for directories means that it is possible to enter the directory.

If you are the only user of the drive, you might want to use the 'uid' and 'gid' options.

For some reason I can't seem to figure out Amarok has stopped working altogether. I'm planning to update it with yum when I get round to it, but for the moment I'm looking out for other options.

All the same thanks for your tips. I did run into some trouble with aMule which I succesfully solved by adding uid and gid to my mount option... but I can't test if this has affected Amarok.
