amarok refuses to play mp3's in suse

i have a very annoying problem... i can't listen to mp3's in any program in suse. also, i can't play any movies (in avi, mpeg, mpg format).

what can i do? i tried reinstalling, i tried changing the engine in amarok, but it' s useless. then, i tried xmms and xine, but they also failed. realplayer can play mp3's, but it's also got a few bugs (can't create a playlist, doesn't play some *.rm movies), and amarok just feels and looks better.

if anyone has any ideeas, please help!

thanks!

This has been answered before:

SuSE's support for certain media formats has been crippled since version 9.1 or possibly earlier. It's down to a legal issue with certain codecs
