amarok on debian testing: GREPME MySQLe query failed! (2000) on init

Hi!

Since the last major upgrade for KDE that happened a few weeks back on debian testing, I've found myself without being able to use the amarok music collection.

When Amarok starts, I can see this message:

Code:
GREPME MySQLe query failed! (2000) on init
So I guess it's something related to mysql? In the old days I didn't have to set up mysql service on the host to be able to use it. What is the workaround for this?

Can't see KDE version from "About KDE"(classy!). Fortunately Amarok provides its own version and KDE's:
Amarok 2.8.0. KDE 4.14.2

Thanks in advance.

I had that same problem with Amarok and MySQLE as a result of KDE's "upgrade" to version 5. Eventually the problem went away (along with many others but not all). Have you updated and upgraded your system recently? Once you apply those upgrades then Amarok should return to its normal self.

I updated and now I lost window decorations plus a bunch of other stuff. I'll use xfce for a few days to see if things come back to normal. :-S

Not enough information to offer any suggestions. How exactly did you update & upgrade (safe-upgrade? dist-upgrade?)? What release are you using? (Sid? Stretch? Jessie?)
Why would you remove libkdecorations2-5? Upgrade? Yes. But remove????
Once I got my new login screen I was offered a choice of what system to use. While Plasma (aka KDE) was unusable, I chose Gnome Flashback Metacity. It is certainly "no frills" but it does the job and has a certain appeal.
