I'm trying to install amanda
on a server to back up a number of windows and linux servers. Whilst the installation of amanda seems to be going alright, I have this problem that's stunting the progress a bit.
The amanda package has the program "amlabel" which labels a tape as an amanda tape. When running it, it rewinds the tape, reads any label that may be on the tape, rewinds the tape again, and then labels it (the last step I'll assume it does!). On the second rewind, the linux server amanda is installed on hangs. I have to hard-reset to recover from it. It doesn't lockup completley though, as I can type a command in, and press enter, but it just wont execute it (ctrl-alt-del doesn't work either). If I try and login from another terminal, I can type the login name, and press enter, but it'll never ask me for my password. The tape autoloader (which is a HP surestore Ultrium tape autoloader) isn't doing anything, nor has it started to do anything before the crash happens.
The amanda server is a plain Redhat 7.3 install btw.
I don't thinks this is a problem with amanda itself, but something is causing a problem when a tape is loaded in the loaders drive already when something is done on the scsi device. If anything is done when there isn't a tape loaded, and the program has to load a tape it runs fine.
Any ideas? I have no idea what to search on in google or anything for this one. The HP site isn't being helpful either.
