Alternitive to Microsoft Movie Maker
Hi,
After a long stugle on installing Kino I got disappointed because I expected from a video editor to actually make some movies by using pics and other stuff like that. Is Movie Maker the only option? I've looked at Cenelerra but the gui didn't even bother to start. Do you guys know anything else beside Movie Maker? |

Yes, its a bit for the lazy people ( like me sometimes). :D
Anyway, last night at midnight I found something interesting that might be what I'm looking for: My Actor . I'll try it around 10 o'clock because I just woke up and need breakfast... :o |
Ok man it work!
But I can only do half the job with it. I can't but music on it because it supports mp2 and not mp3. Timing the pictures isn't very easy and I can put effects in it. The good thing is I successfully exported the video to mpeg. For the rest it's just a demo version, the full version should cost around 200$ ! Do you know anything else? |
Different people have different needs. What is your a/v input? And what is the desired output? I usually convert MPEG-2 (vob, vdr) to MPEG-4 (Xvid) with vorbis audio. For this purpose Avidemux is best I've found. It supports mp3 too (Lame) in case you prefer it over vorbis, provided it is present in your system. If you find something better, please post it here.

Well I was hoping to get the same results as with Movie Maker:
Make an animation with pictures ( jpeg ) put some timers on them and add a music theme in background. So far I've tryed: Main Actor, Kino, Kdenlive, Lives and Cinelerra. Non of them could do what I wanted. Maybe I should stick to OpenOffice Impress. |

Hint: in some industries not only is a GUI vastly superior to a CLI, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST. I don't get how people evangelize the command line in video NLE and graphic design threads. They either skim and don't read for content, are blind zealots, or both. |

Dear KimVette. Please make sure you know what you talk about. Isn't LQ a wonderful place? Today I have learned MS Movie Maker is a professional-level program for creating presentations (I thought it's some sort of movie maker for beginners). |

CLI sucks for video editing. It's even worse for novices and hobbiests. Sometimes GUI is the only way to go - unless you're a masochist. |
kimvette, i am sure nooone has ever called you a good listener : the man has never spoken about cli in this thread !
|
Actually he did make a reference to the CLI IS GOD doctrine:

I think I have to be sorry now? I didn't mean CLI. I meant "oversimplified, not adjustable, without options".

sounds like you guys are doing stop-motion animation? or blender rendering to a bunch of jpegs.
when i rendered in blender to hundreds of jpegs, i needed something to compile them all into one avi file. there's a windows program (free) called Videomach. it runs perfectly under wine, and can import your jpegs or whatever and export them to an avi file with the framerate and codec settings you specify. it worked flawlessly for me. and i think it might even support .wav and mp3 for your background music. |
Thanks I'll try it asap!
