alt.* reader in cli?

I'm trying to access a buddy's posting in an alt.blah.blah newsgroup, but (forgive me for being a newbie to all this old-school internet stuff, I came on board with IE 3.0) I need to get it in cli. I know about Lynx for surfing the web, got it installed in fact, but I wondered if there was a newsgroup reader for the command line that was similar.
Thanks for your help

Jonathan
