Alsamixer best settings

I installed Arch Linux, coming from Ubuntu and while I get sound it doesnt sound as good. is there a way to set the defaults, so I get the best sound. I read someplace that if PCM is over 74 then it digitally amplifies or something.

It used to be that if PCM was over about 75 it would distort, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I have it on 100, now. Line-in and Mic I just set to match the app I'm running so the volume is generally the same as what I get out of PCM.
