ALSA Volume Controls

Hopefully someone knows... are the Master and PCM volume controls in alsamixer supposed to be set to 100%, or should they be set to something less than that?

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Depends on your speakers. If I set mine to 100% they start vibrating like crazy. I have the Master at 80% and PCM at 65-80% (changed through XMMS) and I can also change the volume from my speakers.

Thanks for the reply, Seidren - I was beginning to think nobody here knew the answer. ;)

I asked because at 100% my speakers were way too loud when at the same volume levels used for the OSS sound system. I'll go in and make some adjustments.

Thanks again!

Yeah, remember XMMS changes your pcm sound. I usually leave my master at 100 and use xmms or my speaker nob to controll it.
