Alsa question on 2.6.0 kernel?

Ok, i compiled my new 2.6.0 kernel and everything works great. My question is... I compiled all the alsa settings into my kernel, but when i go to run "amixer" i get this error..."bash: amixer: command not found". I cannot use my EQ on XMMS 1.2.8 (for some reason), so I figured this would be the problem right? All i would like to do is customize my EQ setteings for a good clean quality sound...everyone wants that right. Also, aumix doesn't work anymore; when I turn the volume up the whole way the sound turns off, so I muted aumix. I just figured alsa has taken over the mixer settings and i would like to customize them. Any comments? I would like to head-bang to some Slayer with good guality sound. YEAH!
