alsa pcm error with 2.6.1 kernel
I have trouble getting alsa to work on my Dell C600. I have all alsa options compiled into the kernel, the only module is my sound card (Maestro3). I don't get any errors while booting everything seems fine. However when I try to play something (using aplay) I get this error.
Code:
Playing WAVE '/usr/lib/MozillaFirebird/res/samples/test.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 22050 Hz, Mono I am using running Gentoo with the 2.6.1 kernel. My alsa-lib, alsa-utils version is 1.0.2. Do anyone have any idea? Oh yeah, One weird thing is that the sound sometimes works. Usually when I least expect it. I have no idea what the difference is between the boot up when it works and when it doesn't. Usually it does not work. |

I tried to install the alsa-tools. It installed successfully. But it did not fix the error. (sic).
My gut feeling tells me that it is just some very easy permission some where but I just can't figure out what it could be. |
update on maestro problem
I have a similar problem to what you posed. I have a Dell C500 laptop with same card, with kernel 2.6.3 on Arch linux. I can't get my sound working at all? How'd you do yours? I've tried modprobe snd-maestro3 on both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels on same system. Thanks for any help...
