ALSA mixer settings revert to default automatically

I'm running ALSA 1.0.8 and I have a minor problem. When I leave my computer for an hour or so and come back, the ALSA mixer settings are restored to default (muted). I have a valid asound.state file in /etc and everything works fine when i trype "alsactl restore", so what could the problem be? This only happens if I leave the computer for an hour or so, everything works fine when it boots up the first time.
