alsa EMU10k1 question and gnome-volume-control

I am using an audigy card and just got everything working. The problem however, is that in gnome-volume-control all of the emu10k1 entries appear about ten times each. Is there a way to fix this to make levels easier to find and adjust? I am also worried about whether something is getting loaded ten times rather than jsut one and any problems that may cause. Sorry if this isn't a very good post but I am just starting with linux.

i dont know if this has any bearing on your errors, but when i recently compiled Alsa-1.0.12 on Slackware-10.2 with a custom built 2.4.33 kernel i got an error running make when i was compiling the alsa-driver -- the error mentioned emu10k1 - but i ran make install anyway and alsa works for me even with this error...

i even tryed parameters like --without-emu10k1 and still got the error
