All those with dual boot problems - please read!

There is a great web page that details the steps to dual boot your PC/server.

http://www.poopoccurs.com/linux/dualboot.html

Follow the directions to a 'T' - do not skip past any step.

I followed them last night and I am now dual booting W2K and Red Hat 7.2 (using Grub) with no problems.

Two things I've seen that cause problems - people reference the wrong drive in Linux (for example I was referecning my hdb3 and not hdb1 which is my boot partition) and second, I was using Notepad to edit boot.ini. Wrong! You need to edit the boot.ini file like the web page says.

I hope this helps those having problems.

i managed to get my dual boot working just fine with a barebones debian install and WinME
debian comes packaged with LILO which is easy to configure.. thank you for posting that link so others can get it figured out with other linux installs

My pleasure. I did extensive searching on the web/news groups for information and the site I referenced was straight forward and easy to understand. I am a newbie and I love diving into Linux and figuring it out, but I want to be able to give back to others so that they don't have to reinvent the wheel.

yeah, i have helped a few people that are newer then me, but with my setup i feel that i am having to reinvent the wheel because i cannot get my modem working although it has been documented to work with other linux dists, it just doesnt happen to work with my debian... that and i have about 20 unknown hardware devices on my system, most of them are integrated items like ACPI IRQ holder for PCI IRQ steering.. for example... its hard to find any source code or anything on these items...
