All around media player

What is a good player that can play most types, eg. ogg, mp3, mpg, and video files? All the players i have preinstalled (RedHat Fedora), they all play really scratchy, and none of them can play videos. I have a cli based player for mp3, but it's a pain having to switch back and fourth between players just for different songs.
Also, i installed the new XMMS player, and for some reason it fast-forwards through songs in like 4 seconds. I looked through all the options I could, enabled and disabled all the plugins, but I can't find out whats wrong.
XMMS is version 1.2.10

never had that issue. video can be a pain. however depends on what made the songs and such.

i have never had any issues with normal MP3, ogg, wav and such on xmms. however any streaming audio may not work well. and i dont know of any with good WMA support.

also what about your soundcard and sound card driver??

Try mplayer. It plays everything you are asking for, including VCD's and DVD's.

I have mplayer, and it plays fine, but its scratchy. All my players (on linux) have this horrible scratchy sound no matter how much i adjust my sound settings.

VLC seems to work better than mplayer for me, but it's not perfect.

Which audio output module do you use? I found aRts to be the best, but it's still a little slow.

I'd have to throw in my vote for mplayer as well (though I really wish it had a better GUI). If your sound is scratchy in many different apps, it could be a problem with your sound output drivers - ALSA and OSS are a couple of major ones. I use ALSA without any problems; but try switching around if possible to see if that's the cause.

try adjusting your sound levels to, I had scratchy sound to until I turned down one thing and up another.

try alsamixer

whenever i use xmms for a cd i need to change the two cd options in alsamixer, but when i want to listen to a .pls, .mp3, .ogg, etc i need ti change the alsamixer settings, i need to lower my cd volumes all the way, and whalah! it shouldnt sound scratchy after that (well that works with me but i probably have a whole different setup, OS: slackware 9.1, Soundcard: audigy mp3 edition, amd athlon xp 3000+, etc).
