You probably want to download the official linux AIM client from www.aim.com, then export your buddylist and import into GAIM. The GAIM client is alot better then the official Linux client but it wont automaticly get your buddylist from AIM. Just a tip...

Strange, must be an issue with the version that comes with Mandrake not getting buddylists.

Or it could be another of many "issues" that come with Mandrake itself. :-)

Hey I started with Mandrake, but all of the weird, hard-to-track-down, this-shouldn't-be-happening problems disappeared once I switched to Slack. Coincidence? I think not. I do encourage first time linux users to start with Mandrake, though, without suggesting that they later move to another distro. For a first linux experience for a non-clueful user, you can't beat it.
